The Marciano brothers grew up in the South of France, a region which cultivated passionate understanding of French design and the essence of style. Inspired by an appreciation of the American West, the Marcianos combined their European sensibilities with a love of classic American tradition and created GUESS? Inc.

The 1970's had taken clothing design down a path with little direction. It was a time when people thought denim was outdated and ceased to think of jeans as a fashion statement -- the Marciano brothers would change that forever. The attitude, while timeless, was sensuous yet strong and chic. The GUESS? approach was fresh, setting a standard for the new vision of denim.  

Retailers initially greeted GUESS? with skepticism. Buyers thought denim was finished, but in the minds of the Marciano brothers, instinct stood above reason. The 3-zip Marilyn jean was sexy -- a jean for those who wanted to make a statement and express their individual style and attitude. After much resistance, Bloomingdale's agreed to sell some two dozen pair of the Marilyn 3-zip jean as a favor to the Marciano brothers -- within hours, the entire stock sold out.

The GUESS? label was born in 1981 and would become one of today's most recognized and influential brand names. With a broad range of apparel and accessories for men, women and children as well as the home, the GUESS? collections fully enhance the essential quality of one's lifestyle.

Since its inception, GUESS? has been guided by the Marciano brothers, Maurice, Paul, and Armand. Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Maurice Marciano has overseen the Company's design direction and inspired its spirited and significant expansion since 1982. Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Paul Marciano is credited with the vision that is the essence of the GUESS? image -- one that has created some of the most innovative and ground-breaking images in the history of advertising. Armand Marciano, Senior Executive Vice President, oversees retail, processing, shipping and customer relations for GUESS? which has product licenses throughout the world.

GUESS? continues to challenge the high standards which have been created as the Company moves to remain a driving artistic force in the 21st century.
